MU Stephens Hall
University of Missouri-ColumbiaDepartment of Biochemistry Laboratories
Stephens Hall was built in 1936 to house one of the first Wildlife Departments in the country. It is a two-level 6,600 square foot, limestone building on the “white campus” at the University of Missouri. Our team developed the program for the renovation, in which only he original building frame, exterior walls, and floor were left intact.
The project contained labs, offices and support space for Biochemistry. A complete upgrade of the electric and HVAC systems, as well as the addition of an elevator were included in the design. While converting the building to comply with modern laboratory requirements, maintaining the original architectural character was a top priority.
The remodeling and modernization was designed to be elegant and functional, and most importantly, responsive to the needs of the scientists occupying the space. Finishes were also coordinated with a custom floor finish and art pieces that the client had previously selected.
