From GMPRC to CGAHR.

The USDA Research Center in Manhattan, Kansas recently went through a name change from Grain Marketing Production and Research Center to Center for Grain and Animal Health Research to better reflect the center's current activities, including the relocation of Arthropod-Borne Animal Disease Research Laboratory from Laramie, Wyoming. Other Research Units in the Center include Hard Winter Wheat Genetics Research Unit, Engineering and Wind Erosion Research Unit, Stored Product Insect Research Unit and Grain Quality and Structure Research Unit.

In 2008 Treanor Architects' Life Sciences team completed a 15-year modernization project of this USDA facility in Manhattan. The two-part process for the modernization/facilities upgrade included an investigative report that identified non-conforming building code and life safety items; mechanical and electrical systems deficiencies; and developed possible corrective actions and associated costs and schedules. Part two involved the design, construction documents and construction administration, including a full-time Resident Inspector for all construction phases. The modernization included an added research space and environmental chambers.

At the completion of the project, Treanor Architects received outstanding marks in every category on the Government Contractor Performance Evaluation.
